Kissing the Kaaba Door and Making Du‘a at the Multazam: Is It from the Sunnah?

Question:

Is kissing the door of the Kaaba and the Multazam (the area between the Black Stone and the door) and making Du’a there considered Sunnah?

Answer:

The practice of the Prophetﷺﷺ  was only to touch and kiss the Black Stone (Hajr al-Aswad) and the Yemeni corner (Rukn al-Yamani). Ibn Umar (RA) said, “I have not seen the Prophetﷺ touch any part of the Kaaba except the two Yemeni corners (the Black Stone and the Rukn al-Yamani).” (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 1609).

There are Hadiths mentioning that the Prophetﷺﷺ  placed his chest, hands, and face against the Multazam, but these narrations are weak (Da’if). One such narration in Ibn Majah contains a narrator (Musannah bin Sabbah) who is considered very weak by scholars. The authentic Sunnah is to touch and kiss the Black Stone and the Yemeni corner. As for the rest of the Kaaba, the door, or the Multazam, the Prophetﷺ did not establish a practice of kissing or clinging to them.
