Question:
whether Hadith 547 and Verse 4:103 agree with each other or contradict each other.?
Answer:
What is Hadith 547? It explains how the Prophetﷺ used to perform the obligatory prayers. Someone asked Abu Barza about this. He said that the Prophetﷺ used to pray Dhuhr prayer (the noon prayer) when the sun had just passed its highest point. When the sun reaches its peak, prayer is prohibited, but as soon as it begins to decline, Dhuhr prayer would be performed.
After that, he would perform Asr prayer. A person would go from the mosque to the farthest edge of Madinah, and even by the time he reached his house, the sun would still not have set. This indicates that Asr prayer was performed early enough before sunset.
Regarding Maghrib prayer, he mentioned something but forgot to elaborate. Regarding Isha prayer, it is mentioned that the Prophetﷺ preferred delaying it. He disliked sleeping before Isha and also disliked engaging in unnecessary conversation after it.
Regarding Fajr prayer, the Prophetﷺ would complete the prayer at a time when a person could recognize the person standing next to him due to the slight appearance of dawn light. When the prayer began, it would still be dark, but by the time it ended, some light would appear, though the sun would not have risen yet.
Thus, Hadith 547 explains the timing of each prayer.Regarding Verse 4:103, it states that, after completing prayer, believers should remember Allahﷻ while standing, sitting, and lying down. When fear and danger disappear; peace returns, believers should establish prayer properly because prayer is a duty prescribed at fixed times.
Verse 103 is a continuation of Verse 102, which explains how to perform prayer during battle. Verse 103 states that once the battle situation ends and safety returns, prayer must be performed properly at its fixed times.
Therefore, the verse states that prayer is an obligation prescribed at fixed times, while the hadith explains those specific times. There is no contradiction. Both explain and support each other.
