Is it forbidden to recite the Quran from a mobile phone?

Question:

A scholar claims it is forbidden to recite the Quran from a mobile phone because it also contains movies and obscene content. Is this correct.

Answer:

This scholar’s argument is illogical and based on a flawed analogy. He compares a mobile phone to a vessel used for urine, arguing that just as you wouldn’t eat from a urine pot, you shouldn’t read the Quran from a phone that also shows obscenity. This is a false equivalence.

A mobile phone is a tool. The images and videos on it are not physical contaminants that cling to the device. If a scholar says reciting Quran from a phone is forbidden, then by the same logic, he should not use his phone to give lectures, promote his Hajj tours, or be on Facebook or YouTube, as these platforms also contain obscene and inappropriate content. The Prophetﷺﷺ  taught us to use technology for good. There is no evidence that reciting the Quran from a digital screen is Haram. This is an example of poor understanding and a baseless ruling.
